Norma, Fibremood edition 9, 2020

Door Nienke 15 april 2020

With this editon I enter linkparty #13, with a view others I had the honour to test a pattern and release it on this day (april 15th). I made this blouse with fabric from Javro Stoffenmarkt XXL.

When I received the list of patterns we could test, I immediately loved this one. The Norma blouse. But I had some doubts because I liked almost all of the patterns, I can make all the patterns of this edition. In the end I choose this one because of the basics of the look and I already knew with kind of fabric I wanted to use.

The fabric I bought by Javro Stoffenmarkt, a store in the Netherlands, normal they don’t have online sales but now because of the Corona measures they sell via Instagram and send it. I couldn’t choose with color I wanted so my friends and mother helped me. Luckily enough at that time they had only 4 choices, now they have many more!

I choose this pattern because of the basic look and the beautiful waistline. It’s a short model but I love it, it’s my style because I’m always wearing a high waisted pants. With my figure (hourglass) it’s a nice accent to have a short top or blouse on a high waisted pants.
Some off the testers extended the blouse, but I didn’t.

It’s a easy model to make! I hacked only the hemming technique because I didn’t understand the method they were explaining. At the end I better had used the blind hemming technique because this way there is no top stitching anywhere, now there is only at the bottom. But hi, I can do that the next time! I couldn’t choose the right color anyway so choices enough.

Something else I liked about this pattern, are the sleeves. The crinkled sleeves, most of you who follow my on instagram or read my tutorial know that I totally love crinkled sleeves. This one is very decent!

For the critical viewers, Yeah I made a mistake with the buttonholes! I made I measurement error. I always measure my own buttonholes because it has to do with the size of the buttons you want to use. But this time I made a non-reversible mistake, because I noticed it too late, when the buttons where already on and I cut the fabric.
Yeti t doesn’t bother me, because I like the blouse very much! Normally i don’t make a pattern multiple times, but this one is a contender. (also because you only need 1.10 meters of fabric, lovely for coupons)

La Maison Victor, editie 3 – 2020

Door Nienke 14 april 2020

A article of this outfit is posted in the newest La Maison Victor, April 2020, I used fabric from De Lappenkraam, a Dutch (web)shop.

This year I made a promise to myself, not to buy clothes only make them. This way I save money to buy a new cover lock at the end of this year.
I’m a social worker and we have regulations how to dress yourself at the office. I didn’t have enough decent yet light hearted clothes to wear to work last year. When I received the pattern overview this pattern of the Valerie caught my eye. It’s perfect in a linen fabric, lovely for work. This way I worked ahead of schedule.

Honestly in the end it’s more a outfit for the beach, with flipflops then the office. *hihi.

The fabric was sponsored by De Lappenkraam, a store which I’m blogging for as well. I looked on there site for a linen fabric and found one. Just needed to have a matching fabric for the top, so I texted the owners of the store and the send my three kind of colors.
The top I draw myself, eight with a different sleeve, like you can see on the pictures. About the last yellow top I wrote a tutorial.

I made the front part of the leg 4 cm smaller. I did it before cutting in to the fabic, I chanced the pattern. I fold the pattern on the straight of thread each side 2 cm, making a total of 4 cm per side. I had to replace the plaid, but by measuring the old plaids it was a easy job.
Honestly it was out of need because I ordered to the wrong length of fabric. But if I didn’t chance it, it would drop form my ass anyway. *hihi.

On the back side of the legs I took a cm in both darts, like this it fitted better and a had more accent on the curves.

And finally I chanced the hem of the pants, I make a hem ad form instead of right/straight. Like this the hem is better fitting. When it’s right/straight I always have a gap in the back. In the Netherlands we call it a “construction worker cleavage”.

In the end I’m very happy with the end result! I would wear it on vacation but also at work, it brings cheerfulness. *hihi
Because I was stubborn doesn’t mean it’s not a beautiful pattern, like wise. I’m enthusiastic about this pattern, easy to make!  I didn’t read the description, only take one look at the picture of the plaids to look if I was right, a check up.

It’s a Fits dress, Javro

Door Nienke 3 april 2020

I made this It’s a Fits button-up dress with a viscose material found at Javro Stoffenmarkt  XXL in Epse.

Over the last three months I have posted a blog for Javro Stoffenmarkt XXL (a fabric supermarket) every Wednesday. My blog posts are inspired by what I find in books on their coffee table as well as what I see on social media. Javro’s owner Manon always offers great ideas and this time she gets all the credit! Customers often ask Manon about button-up dresses, a pattern that never seems to go out of style. I was happy to participate in this trend and put my own spin on it.

Right now you see a lot of vintage clothing added to the fashion lines in stores, you could call it 2020-vintage. Perhaps I am the only one who notices it because I’m crazy about this style *hihi. At Javro I can go to town; there are plenty of “vintage” fabrics to combine with the right pattern and then make the most lovely things (you’re right – I’m planning more creations. Yes, I have a stash *hihi)

I used pattern 1111 from It’s a Fits which is available at Javro – just like the fabric is. These patterns are sold separately. It was the first time I used this brand, which I found to be an exciting challenge, as every pattern designer uses their own techniques and sizing charts.

It was also the first time that a sizing chart actually matched my measurements. With the It’s a Fits sizing chart I wasn’t somewhere in between two sizes which is what usually happens! So I didn’t make any adjustments and it fits perfectly. Am I excited?? YOU BET! (It’s not that I dislike adjusting patterns, but this sure was nice for once.)

What I did change was how I placed the yoke part of the pattern onto the fabric in such a way that, once sewn, the lines would be horizontal rather than the vertical lines in the rest of the dress. I did the same for the cuffs and collar, so they also have the horizontal lines.
This was not only a nice idea when it came to looks, it worked really well with fabric spacing because I barely had enough even when following their guidelines. With other brands of patterns I’ve often had extra fabric, but this was definitely not the case for this pattern. I had purchased their recommended amount if fabric for a size 42 and ended up making a size 40 dress with next to no left over pieces of fabric (I’d accounted for shrinkage). This makes me curious, are there more people who have experienced this when they worked with It’s a Fit patterns? I would like to read something about what others have noticed.

Some of my followers may have noticed that I documented the process of making this dress in my Instagram Stories (which I will save in my highlights)! I hope to start doing this more often because I received many positive reactions to it! This does not mean I will no longer include the process on the blog, perhaps you would like to join me on my journey to a finished product.

I wouldn’t be myself if I didn’t conclude with a funny photo, right? (By now we’re all used to it, I think?! *hihi )
